Congratulations to John Jewell, New Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors
We’re pleased to share that John Jewell has been appointed Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors this past week!
John was first elected to the Board on November 7, 2023, and will now serve as Chairman for the next year. Prior to his election, John served on the Frederick County Planning Commission from March 2020 through December 2023, including two years as Chairman.
John and his wife, Susan, have lived in the Back Creek District for over 27 years, where they raised their son and daughter. In 2019, John retired after a 40-year career as Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Senate.
John has been an active and valued member of the Chamber for many years — please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved leadership role!

Mark your calendars! The Virginia Chamber of Commerce will host its 2025 Annual Legislative Awards Luncheon on
November 6, 2025 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Greater Richmond Convention Center
At this event, the Chamber will recognize legislators for their support of Blueprint Virginia 2035 and their leadership in advancing pro-business legislation during the 2025 General Assembly session. The 2025 Legislator of the Year will also be announced!

Laurel Ridge Breaks Ground on Power Line Worker Training Facility
Big news from Laurel Ridge Community College! On Thursday, officials broke ground on a new pole yard and pole circle for the college’s Power Line Worker Program — the first pre-apprenticeship program of its kind north of Richmond.
This exciting initiative is designed to prepare students for careers in the energy sector and was celebrated with representatives from energy companies, area legislators, and the program’s first cohort of students.
