Legislative Corner

The Public Policy Committee follows a variety of topics from local, state and federal governments. Here is one of the items of note we’re following:

Legislative Corner – Weekly Update

This week, we want to bring our members’ attention to an important opportunity for public input. A new transportation survey—similar to the one recently conducted for Interstate 81—is now open for Virginia Route 7. If you regularly travel this corridor or your business depends on it, we strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to participate. Your feedback will help guide design improvements aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing safety along this increasingly busy roadway.

Please take the survey and share your thoughts—your input matters: https://publicinput.com/st-25-05alts?fbclid=Iwb21leAOEFIZjbGNrA4QUX2V4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHhW35iLLvlq7brHcmBP8xh9Lr5dHHLBwRUYI0tZWaL9Zuab83Pu7EGk9LG11_aem_t8a6Kms6P8Kiz3Z9W5FxjA

In addition, we want to flag a key date on Virginia’s legislative calendar.
The 2026 General Assembly Session will begin taking shape on November 17, when the pre-filing period officially opens. This marks the first opportunity for legislators to submit bills for consideration in the upcoming session, which convenes the second week of January in Richmond.

As legislation begins to be filed, you can review all pre-filed bills on the Virginia Legislative Information System at: https://lis.virginia.gov/

While November 17 is the official start of pre-filing, it typically takes several days for the earliest legislation to appear as the Legislative Information Services team processes and posts submissions. Expect a steady trickle of new and refiled bills to begin appearing over the following week.

We will continue monitoring developments closely and keep our members updated as proposals begin to take shape.
