Topic: Investing in Workforce Development through Work-Based Learning
Description: Work force development is the new buzz word for the business community today because we don't have the workers we need for the jobs that are available. Our local public school systems in partnership with local businesses have taken the bull by the horns, and have developed a work-based learning model to educate high school students about jobs that are available right here in our community. This model provides students with the opportunity to gain job experience and training, better preparing them for the work place upon graduation.
Not all work-based learning requires paid experiences or lengthy time commitments. Opening your workplace as a job shadowing site, offering a short-term internship to help you complete a special project you just haven't had the time to tackle, or serving as a career speaker can all be ways for you to play a part in the development of our local workforce, and your future employees.
If you are interested in investing in your future work force this will be a great opportunity for you to learn one way you may be able to do that. Participants will learn about various types of state recognized work-based learning methods for public high school students, and hear local success stories including a new manufacturing model.
