Green Belt | Lean Six Sigma
GREEN BELT COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This hands on, interactive training and certification course forms the
foundation for Green Belt Certification. Participants gain an enhanced practitioner’s
comprehension of various Lean Six Sigma philosophies, methodologies, and tools that improve
process performance including core problem solving and project management. Statistical
concepts and process analysis techniques are explored along with best-practice facilitation and
change management methods. Following the disciplined Lean Six Sigma DMAIC (Define-
Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) roadmap, this course teaches you how to collect and analyze
performance data, identify inefficiencies and problems, isolate root causes, test potential
solutions, and implement sustainable improvements. This course also provides techniques and skills
for leading teams through the change.
This course is filled with applicable real-world and theoretical case studies and examples and
includes examples from Lean Acres: A Tale of Strategic Innovation and Improvement in a Farmiliar
Setting from Quality Press to stimulate creative thinking and analogous solution generation.
Lessons integrate multiple aspects of Continuous Performance Improvement including: Lean
(includes Kaizen), Six Sigma (SDMAICR™ and DMAIC), 7S™, Theory of Constraints, Business Process
Reengineering, Change Management, and Program and Project Management.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Attain and sustain high-impact, measurable improvements in cost, revenue (or budget),
quality, and speed;
2. Understand and apply the scientific method under enterprise and local conditions;
3. Define, assess, target, and reduce waste and variation in systems and processes;
4. Analyze data, information, operations, and effects from different organizations, functional
areas, or processes;
5. Apply methods, concepts, and tools across existing and new programs and projects, and;
6. Prepare and deliver project reports and visual presentations.
CERTIFICATION: Certification requirements include the following:
1. Attend all course modules in their entirety;
2. Complete one Lean Six Sigma project (see requirements below);
3. Pass the multiple-choice Certification Exam (80% or higher), and;
4. Make a final project presentation to your management team, including lessons learned.
PROJECT: Students will be required to follow the DMAIC project framework and use select Lean Six
Sigma tools (designated by the Instructor). Students pursuing Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
certification will successfully complete a Management- and Instructor-approved Lean Six Sigma
Project with projected operational benefits (improved speed and/or quality), a financial impact
(increased revenue/budget or reduced cost), and a completion timeline not to exceed the
duration of the course. Each Lean Six Sigma Green Belt candidate will:
1. Complete all required actions and documentation for each of the five required DMAIC stages
(Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) – this requires the application of each of the
tools designated by the Instructor per stage;
2. Complete tollgate meetings with both the Instructor (first) and the project Sponsor (second)
for each of the five required DMAIC stages, and;
3. Deliver a summary presentation including key actions, results, and lessons learned.
